Exhibition in Yangon, Myanmar Dec. 2018

Unnoticed Heritage

For centuries, the rich red clay from the shores of the Irrawaddy River and Inle Lake has provided Myanmar potters with a solid supply to produce their pots. Most of the potters produce vases, plant pots and basic kitchenware, like food bowls and water pots. Across the country these water pots are placed by individuals at the roadside, offering a cool drink of water to any person, a gesture of Myanmar hospitality.

Reconnect, Rediscover and Celebrate the Obvious

With Ilona’s Ceramic Art Myanmar Water Pot Installation, visitors are invited to have a closer look at the obvious. The Installation provokes a (re)connection with handmade clay objects that are used by so many without really noticing them.

Through a unique experimental ceramic glaze process, Ilona brings this iconic kitchen-ware alive in a contemporary way and creates an open invitation to (re)discover its beauty.
