Pottery shed training - January-July 2019

Ongoing product improvement training with the participating potters in their pottery sheds in Twantay

Guest lesson with Katy Ostronic - January 2019

Our special volunteer and professional potter Katy Ostronic, who teaches at an international school in Yangon, taught a full day to the potters on:

  • Pull handles for a mug 

  • Sgraffito decoration techniques 

  • Mixing a rainbow of colours from primary colours 

  • Developing your own design 

  • Feeling inspired by using magazines and books on ceramics 

Wood fire kiln research & development - April 2019 

A 24-hour overnight stay at a pottery shed in Twantay to work on tiles product development. 

​

The project team, the potters and an additional four volunteers tested the wood fire kiln: different kiln stacking techniques, glazing, application techniques, use of temporature cones and pyrometer (an instment for measuring high temperature). 

The final product has been used in several kitchen renovations in Yangon.
